Clinical Somatic Education) was published in a peer-reviewed journal for the first time. The study included 103 patients with chronic lower back and\/or neck pain. Researchers evaluated the effect of one-on-one Hanna Somatic Education (HSE) sessions, measuring differences in pain, use of pain medication, and number of doctor visits before the sessions and six months after completing the sessions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 19px; line-height: 29px;\">Patients rated their pain level on a scale of 0-5 (0 = no pain, 5 = worst possible pain). After completing a mean of 2.8 HSE sessions, the mean lower back pain rating decreased from 3.3 to 0.6, a decrease of 81%. The mean neck pain rating decreased from 3.1 to 0.6, a decrease of 80%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 19px; line-height: 29px;\">After six months, the number of patients (out of 103) using pain medication decreased from 53 to 14. The reduction in the use of medication for patients with lower back pain was 87.5%, with neck pain was 73%, and with both neck and lower back pain was 61.5%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 19px; line-height: 29px;\">The mean number of doctor visits during the six months prior to receiving HSE sessions was 2. This was reduced to a mean of 0.5 visits in the six months following the HSE sessions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 19px; line-height: 29px;\">In conclusion, \u201cClinical sessions of HSE were found to significantly reduce chronic spinal pain. First, even a firm mattress does not give adequate support for the body in these movements. This means that you will be bracing yourself to some degree, which limits the effectiveness of the movements and could even lead you to strain your muscles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px !important; line-height: 30px !important;\">Second, a mattress is not firm enough to give accurate sensory feedback in the movements. So, you will not be able to accurately sense your body position and movement. The ideal surface on which to practice the floor exercises is on an exercise mat, carpet, or blanket on the floor, or on a flat, wide physical therapy table.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px !important; line-height: 30px !important;\">If practicing on a bed is truly the only option for you, we recommend being very careful and staying very aware of how you are using your body. Some people experience significant benefits within the first few days or weeks of practicing the exercises, while for others it takes longer. There are many factors that affect your progress, including: your current level of pain and\/or muscle tension, your stress level, your regular daily activities, any physical activities you engage in, and any structural issues you have (such as joint or nerve damage or a fracture). Researchers evaluated the effect of one-on-one Hanna Somatic Education (HSE) sessions, measuring differences in pain, use of pain medication, and number of doctor visits before the sessions and six months after completing the sessions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 19px; line-height: 29px;\">Patients rated their pain level on a scale of 0-5 (0 = no pain, 5 = worst possible pain). After completing a mean of 2.8 HSE sessions, the mean lower back pain rating decreased from 3.3 to 0.6, a decrease of 81%. The mean neck pain rating decreased from 3.1 to 0.6, a decrease of 80%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 19px; line-height: 29px;\">After six months, the number of patients (out of 103) using pain medication decreased from 53 to 14. The reduction in the use of medication for patients with lower back pain was 87.5%, with neck pain was 73%, and with both neck and lower back pain was 61.5%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 19px; line-height: 29px;\">The mean number of doctor visits during the six months prior to receiving HSE sessions was 2. I typically recommend that people cut back or stop practices such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/somaticmovementcenter.com\/stretch-reflex-myotatic-reflex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">static stretching<\/a><\/strong>, chiropractic, rolfing, deep tissue massage, and any other manipulative therapy while practicing Clinical Somatics. These therapies do not retrain the nervous system and can often cause muscles to become tighter, interfering with the somatic learning process.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px !important; line-height: 30px !important;\">Gentle massage and acupuncture are generally fine to continue while practicing Clinical Somatics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px !important; line-height: 30px !important;\">If you feel that physical therapy exercises are helping you, then by all means continue with them. First, even a firm mattress does not give adequate support for the body in these movements. This means that you will be bracing yourself to some degree, which limits the effectiveness of the movements and could even lead you to strain your muscles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px !important; line-height: 30px !important;\">Second, a mattress is not firm enough to give accurate sensory feedback in the movements. So, you will not be able to accurately sense your body position and movement. The ideal surface on which to practice the floor exercises is on an exercise mat, carpet, or blanket on the floor, or on a flat, wide physical therapy table.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px !important; line-height: 30px !important;\">If practicing on a bed is truly the only option for you, we recommend being very careful and staying very aware of how you are using your body. Some people experience significant benefits within the first few days or weeks of practicing the exercises, while for others it takes longer. There are many factors that affect your progress, including: your current level of pain and\/or muscle tension, your stress level, your regular daily activities, any physical activities you engage in, and any structural issues you have (such as joint or nerve damage or a fracture). Clinical Somatic Education) was published in a peer-reviewed journal for the first time. The study included 103 patients with chronic lower back and\/or neck pain. Researchers evaluated the effect of one-on-one Hanna Somatic Education (HSE) sessions, measuring differences in pain, use of pain medication, and number of doctor visits before the sessions and six months after completing the sessions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 19px; line-height: 29px;\">Patients rated their pain level on a scale of 0-5 (0 = no pain, 5 = worst possible pain). After completing a mean of 2.8 HSE sessions, the mean lower back pain rating decreased from 3.3 to 0.6, a decrease of 81%. The mean neck pain rating decreased from 3.1 to 0.6, a decrease of 80%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 19px; line-height: 29px;\">After six months, the number of patients (out of 103) using pain medication decreased from 53 to 14. The reduction in the use of medication for patients with lower back pain was 87.5%, with neck pain was 73%, and with both neck and lower back pain was 61.5%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 19px; line-height: 29px;\">The mean number of doctor visits during the six months prior to receiving HSE sessions was 2. This was reduced to a mean of 0.5 visits in the six months following the HSE sessions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 19px; line-height: 29px;\">In conclusion, \u201cClinical sessions of HSE were found to significantly reduce chronic spinal pain. I typically recommend that people cut back or stop practices such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/somaticmovementcenter.com\/stretch-reflex-myotatic-reflex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">static stretching<\/a><\/strong>, chiropractic, rolfing, deep tissue massage, and any other manipulative therapy while practicing Clinical Somatics. These therapies do not retrain the nervous system and can often cause muscles to become tighter, interfering with the somatic learning process.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px !important; line-height: 30px !important;\">Gentle massage and acupuncture are generally fine to continue while practicing Clinical Somatics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px !important; line-height: 30px !important;\">If you feel that physical therapy exercises are helping you, then by all means continue with them. First, even a firm mattress does not give adequate support for the body in these movements. This means that you will be bracing yourself to some degree, which limits the effectiveness of the movements and could even lead you to strain your muscles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px !important; line-height: 30px !important;\">Second, a mattress is not firm enough to give accurate sensory feedback in the movements. So, you will not be able to accurately sense your body position and movement. The ideal surface on which to practice the floor exercises is on an exercise mat, carpet, or blanket on the floor, or on a flat, wide physical therapy table.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px !important; line-height: 30px !important;\">If practicing on a bed is truly the only option for you, we recommend being very careful and staying very aware of how you are using your body.
